We finally went through with it!

25 Mar

What? You might ask? After an 11 month debate, we finally got Audrey’s ears pierced. I had a pit in my stomach the whole time they were doing it because I felt like I was unnecessarily causing my baby pain but it couldn’t be any worse than a vaccination right?

Anyway, we got them done at Wal-Mart. The lady was really thorough on telling me how to care for them and such. Then, we sat down. I held the baby and 2 ladies did the piercing at the same exact time. She only cried for a couple of minutes and then she was as fine as could be. She doesn’t even notice them. They are adorable!

Anyway, we went to look at hamsters today. We are going to get one soon but I want to be absolutely sure that we (the boys included) can handle the responsibility. Our fishy that we had for almost a year died a few weeks ago and we’ve been missing it quite a bit. The pet store was NASTY! They were feeding snakes baby rats, that had no hair. :-( I couldn’t handle that. We are going to try to find a place that takes better care of their animals because I couldn’t handle getting one and it dying in a matter of weeks.

We also went to Kiddie Land today to get Audrey some PediPed sandals (she wants some more for her birthday size 6-12 months :-p). Anyway, the lady that owns it rescued an abandoned dog and she brought it with her to work. We were looking around and Maddie ran to the back of the store where the playhouse is and saw the dog lying in a rocker sleeping. He ran back to us and said “There’s a dead dog back there”! I was DYING inside! It was hysterical! After he found out the dog was infact not dead, he wouldn’t go back there again!

That’s been our day thus far! My head is pounding and bedtime can’t get here fast enough!

The diarrhea chronicles!

24 Mar

So, Maddux went to the Dr this morning for his diarrhea. It got bad last night. He pooped his self twice in 20 minutes while he was sleeping. Once all over his bed. :( Then, around 5 this  morning, he threw up twice. Not good.

At the Dr he had his blood drawn and he was very good for that. Very patient and he didn’t even cry. I was so proud of him. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) there was nothing out of the ordinary with his counts. So, there’s no easy diagnosis.

Gina decided to also have a stomach X-ray taken and OMG you would have thought it was a form of torture. We had to have 3 people hold him down for a 2 second snapshot. We went back to our room and then one of the nurses came in and said we had to do the X-ray again! Knowing how hard it was the first time, she coaxed him by telling him he could look at the X-ray. His biggest concern was where his poop was! He just wanted to see that. So, he agreed to lay on the table without a fight to get a better look. Everything came back normal with that.

Do you know where I am going with this? The last step was a stool culture. Guess who was lucky enough to earn the right to collect the sample? Yours Truly! The lab was nice enough to give  me gloves and Maddux thought that was so cool because it meant I got to be the Dr!

Collecting wasn’t as bad as I had envisioned. Mad was worried we would make a nasty mess, but we did well. It only took a few seconds to get it and we were done. We ran it up to the hospital and should hear something back on that by Wednesday at the latest.

He’s still got an upset tummy. I have had him on the BRAT diet and it appears to be helping. She also gave us the OK to use children’s Imodium as a last resort, but even then I am not too comfortable with that.

Spencer also had to go to the Dr this morning because he’s got his cough going on again. He is back on inhaler and we’ll see from there. It works well when we use it so he is probably going to need to be on one permanently for a bit.

Right now, Maddie is asking for some rice and even at 9 in the evening, I have to indulge him. He’s pitiful.

Happy Easter!

23 Mar

I took no pictures today. I am sort of bummed that I have nothing of Aud’s first Easter, but we honestly didn’t do anything out of the ordinary either. No frilly dress, no slacks on the boys….just good ol lazy Sundayness.

The boys got one big basket with lots of junk in it! Frisbees, card games, candy, Hot Wheels, and chocolate bunnies. There was other stuff, but I don’t remember what it was.

Miss Audrey got a little pink basket that had a Spongebob ball, a purple chocolate bunny, and 2 t-shirts (to be used for nightshirts). The shirts are girls 4/5 and they almost fit other than being long! We bought them with the intent of being night shirts. I am not sure if you have seen them, but Wal-Mart has these Earth Day shirts that are like 5 bucks a piece. They are so adorable! One we got her is pink and says “Save the Earth. There are no princesses on the moon!” and the other is white with light grey recycling symbols on it and says “Can I recycle my brother”. Love them!

But back to the purple bunny. It was a tiny Russell Stover bunny so I gave it to her to let her gnaw on it a bit. She bit the bunny’s ears off! I had to PRY her mouth open to get out this huge chunk of chocolate and hold it while she slobbered all down my arm!  She finished off those ears! The little bunny has teeth marks all in it.

It was a good day, minus the fact that I burnt my finger while making dinner! We were making Egg McMuffin’s and ham (yes, that was our lazy Easter dinner). I was flipping an Egg and as I flipped it I was putting the cheese on and then it landed cheese side down and I had to hurry and flip it back over…..needless to say, my finger was not the wisest flipping tool.

We watched Ratatouille  and ate candy. I can’t believe it took us so long to watch it! It was a great movie! Of course, most Pixar movies are. I really can’t think of one we haven’t enjoyed.

Maddux has only been to school 2 days this month! He won’t be going tomorrow I am sure because he has had diarrhea for the last 2 days. I am going to have to take him to the Dr. I am bugged because April tuition is due and he didn’t even go in March! There was the flu and then spring break and now this. I am sure the Dr will want him diarrhea free for 24 hours before going back, so there’s Monday and possibly Tuesday!

Alrighty, I am pretty sure that’s about it. Time for bed! School starts back tomorrow! YIPPEE!

Not once, not twice, not even three times………..

22 Mar

FOUR! Four times it took us to try and get Maddux’s hair cut yesterday!

He started to resemble something that just ran out of the woods and desperately needed a cut.  He promised he would go get his hair cut yesterday morning, so we go cleaned up and went to Supercuts.

He wanted NO part of it. He cried, screamed, yelled, did everything in his power to completely embarrass me. I tried bribing him….no dice. I couldn’t force him in the chair since I was holding Audrey so I gave up.

We left and he was screaming “I WANT TO GET MY HAIR CUT” and I told him he couldn’t because he was acting like a baby. I called Dylan and he talked to Maddux and convinced him to try again to get his haircut.

This time we went to Wal-Mart. I had to go anyway to get Audrey a high chair so we were just going to attempt it there. Uh….no! He refused to even go in, but said he would go back to Supercuts.

We went and had lunch with Dylan and we hyped up a hair cut the whole time. He was determined. The whole way there (back to Supercuts) the older boys and I sang a haircut song to Maddie. He was going to do it!

We got back, went in and Maddie was raring to go…..until they called his name! The screaming fit started ALL over again. I got him in the chair this time, but there was no way it was going to happen. I felt like an idiot trying again and left about in tears. I seriously in that moment felt like one of those parents on Supernanny where the kid calls the plays and the parents do as they say!

I called Dylan again and told him I wasn’t going to try it again. It was all on him this time. I called Pro-Cuts to see if I could schedule an appointment, but they were a bunch of wenches. I called Penney’s and scheduled him a 6:30 slot and explained the situation with his apprehension and everything. The lady was wonderful about it.

We took Sis and brothers over to Gran and Papa’s and just Dylan and I took him to Penney’s.  When we walked in, he started to have a meltdown so I left. I let Dylan take the reigns.

Dylan said the lady (Sharon) came over and talked to him and told him about her grandson and slowly coaxed him into the chair. He was still nervous so they let Dylan sit in the chair and hold him while she cut his hair.  It took a little while because she had to scissor  cut it since he is terrified of the clippers and it doesn’t look the greatest, but by George, it’s cut!  And she was SO wonderful with him! I loved it. He will definitely be going back to her from now on.

After his cut, we took him to see the Easter Bunny. He didn’t want to  sit in his lap because he was scared so he just waved and went on about his business.

Snot and red poop!

20 Mar

I am up to my elbows in both! Audrey is like a leaky faucet. Not to mention that Jakob is still pretty nasty sounding and Maddie apparently doesn’t tolerate apple juice too well.  It’s been a disgusting week around here.

Yesterday, I changed Aud’s diaper and TOTALLY freaked out! All the stuff in it was blood red!?! I thought OMG! what is wrong with my baby to cause her to poop blood? I was thisclose to rushing her to the ER, but thankfully I got my wits about me long enough to read the medication pamphlet that said in big bold words: THIS MEDICATION MAY COLOR STOOLS RED! Thank goodness! I really didn’t want to carry a poopy diaper to the emergency room. That would have been fun to wait 3 hours with.

Now she has red diarrhea. I don’t need to tell you all how exciting that is.

In an effort to bulk teeny up (Maddux) I have been trying to shove healthy calories in him where ever I can so I have been giving him apple juice with his lunch everyday……not anymore!

We had to go to Wal-Mart last night and we were there about an hour or so and he had to go poop 3 times! It’s essentially making my bulk up plan backfire!  He’s also had about 4 accidents this week too! I guess I learned nothing from the day he exploded all over Grandma’s house.

On another note, this is an awesome blog: Parenting Solved . I found it when I researching the difference between Good Start Natural Cultures (Aud’s current formula) and Parent’s Choice (half the price of GSNC). She’s only going to be on formula for a few more weeks and I really don’t want to spend a butt load of money on it. Anyway, I actually got caught up reading it and forgot I was blogging.

Anyway, I am sure I have butts and noses to wipe somewhere, so off I go.
